Pie Bird

Story

This is not a song about pies filled with little bits of bird meat! I got on a kick once where I tried to bake the perfect pie, paying particular attention to the crust. As I studied all types of cookbooks, I discovered the pie bird, a little ceramic bird that sits in the center of a pie to vent out the accumulated steam. While I never did master the perfect crust, it was fun trying, and my collection of pie birds sits contentedly on the windowsill, keeping an eye on all of my cooking adventures. I like them so much I named my record label 'Pie Bird Records.'

Lyrics

Pie Bird

Erin loves the Bluebird because its blue, blue, blue--blue as the bright summer sky

The bluebird is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Now it don’t chirp and it don’t sing it don’t do much of anything

You won’t find it in a nest, you won’t find it in the sky, you’ll find it in the center of a homemade pie

Zoe loves the robin because he hop, hop, hops and he’s got a handsome ring around his eye

The robin is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Maddy loves the owl because he who, who, who’s but he never thinks to wonder why

The owl is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Megan loves the loon because she dive, dive, dives, and she cries out with a high and lonesome cry

The loon is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Now it don’t chirp and it don’t sing it don’t do much of anything

You won’t find it in a nest, you won’t find it in the sky, you’ll find it in the center of a homemade pie

Landon loves the falcon because she’s fast, fast, fast, faster than the fastest car can drive

The falcon is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Miles loves the cardinal because he’s red, red, red like fireworks on the fourth of July

The cardinal is just fine, but I love the pie bird, sitting in the center of a pie

Some birds you see in forests, some birds you see in fields, some birds you only see in mountains high

One thing I know for sure when I see a pie bird it’s time to eat a slice of homemade pie

Now it don’t chirp and it don’t sing it don’t do much of anything

You won’t find it in a nest, you won’t find it in the sky, you’ll find it in the center of a homemade pie
